This Apple IIgs Woz Limited Edition sold for $668.16 recently on eBay. The first 50,000 Apple IIgs computers came with Steve Wozniak’s “Woz” signature silkscreened on the front and were referred to as the “Woz Limited Edition“. These machines are not functionally different from machines from the same time period without the signature.
Apple IIgs (Woz) Up for bid is a Maxed out Apple IIgs Woz Computer. The Apple IIgs is a Rom 3 computer with the following boards installed. • 4 Meg memory card • High Speed SCSI card • Apple II Video Overlay Card • Applied engineering Transwarp Card • SCSI Expander Card (w/ Hard drive) The SCSI Expander Card allows you to connect a Hard drive to the card and connects directly to the High Speed SCSI card. This allows the computer to have an internal hard drive. This computer is very fast with the addition of the Applied engineering Transwarp Card and 4 meg memory Card. This computer will ship with the expansion cards removed from the computer. The expansion cards will be put in anti-static bags and shipped with bubble rap for maximum protection. This computer has given me years of good service. The computer lived in a smoke free home. Because of the age of the computer I am unable to warranty the system.
edit: the first 100,000
It was quite a surprise to me when i saw the picture you showed of the apple computer thing. I am new at all this computer world but your photo should made me smile because i saw one of the units just last august in a yard sale for only $10.. i remember the man who was having the sale say its good for parts i guess,i just got a new computer si i dont need it anymore. Thanx fr the info, and if i can remember where the sale was ill be sure to show him your article.
I think it’s probably the collector’s item appeal, although I don’t really get into that sort of thing myself.
It may seem like another bidder idiot, but the price they paid had little to do with the IIgs itself. 90% of that $688 is tied up in the Transwarp card, the 4MB RAM card, and the SCSI card.
The SCSI card and the Transwarp cards go for close to $200 when sold by themselves. The 4MB RAM card is anywhere from $50 to $100. Not sure about that video overlay card.
So, while it may look like someone paid $688 for a $25 IIgs, they in fact paid about $650 for the peripherals.
I used to have one of those - it was my first computer and had 24K of RAM. Sigh … those were the days.
@Sam
If it only had 24K, you probably had the original Apple II (the original IIGS came with at least 256K stock).
I often had fun not only running Apple II apps but also overclocking them to the IIGS’ native speed.
These ” limited edition ‘ Apple IIGSs were not so limited and rare.
They were turned out by the truckload.
A marketing gimmick of things to come.
What is interesting on ebay is to go back to the ebay item listing several weeks after the end of the auction and note what the item really went for.
Sure a piece of toast with the burnt in likeness of the host may of gone for 2 million $ but when it was said and done the end result was only $ 50 not the stated sale price.
This is after all the bid retractions were over ( for various stated and unstated reasons).
Wonder what ebay based its final value fee on ?
It honestly looks like a piece of junk to me.
